Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day. Everyone has a mother. Some of us have the same mother. And the word “mother” brings moving memories for most of us. My mom has always been known as “Mossy”. Mossy is short for Mossamella. My older sister created a “play language” when we were small and she told me to call our mom Mossamella. Wanting to be like my creative, artistic older sister, I obeyed. Mom tried ignoring it, but when it obviously was not going to go away, she told us she would like us to stop calling her Mossamella. That is when it changed to Mossy, and calling her Mossy has never changed. She became Mossy to our children and their children. This Mother’s Day I will be celebrating Mossy, who is now 93. (As dad would tease, he would say she is going on 94.) So Mossy, this one’s for you! Happy Mother’s Day, and thank you for caring and loving me when you really knew me and for filling my life with so many opportunities to grow and learn. I am grateful for you and appreciative to have you in my birthday book! Sometimes, the simplest signatures can be the most meaningful of all. Happy Mother’s Day to all!
